Year 8 Music

Students enrolled in Year 8 Music will participate in fun activities which lead to the development of higher order thinking skills through the use of music language and performance. They will develop the skills and understanding to engage in music as knowledgeable music makers and audience members. Students will participate in individual and group tasks involving arrangement, song writing, improvisation and performance in today’s contemporary music context. Students will apply their knowledge and understandings of musical elements, materials, ideas, styles and technologies to practical tasks in the classroom. This course gives students the opportunity to sing and/or play instruments such as the drums, guitar and keyboard just as they would in a real rock band! In addition, through listening, performing and composing they will begin to identify cultural, social and historical contexts of the music they listen to every day.

Pathways:

Students undertaking Year 8 Music will have the opportunity to study further Music courses in Year 9 and 10, which can lead to possible Year 11 and 12 options in ATAR, General and Certificate courses. Students who excel at this course and are deemed to be suitable will also have the opportunity to move into the Instrumental Music Class in their continuing years of study.
