Dear Parents and Guardians
Baldivis Secondary College has introduced a Bring Your Own Device initiative. Bring your own device (BYOD) refers to technology models where students bring a personally owned device to school for the purpose of learning. There are various models for BYOD. Educational research abounds which clearly shows that the appropriate use of technology in the classroom enhances the educational experience and supports stronger educational outcomes for students.
The college has Information Technology devices for student use currently but these are limited in number and location for consistent classroom usage in daily educational activities. Gone are the days where the government provides computers to students particularly in a 1:1 format. To ensure that schools are able to engage our young people in a variety of learning activities to attend to the variable learning styles many are tapping into the use of technology in a rich and meaningful way and in tune with the reality that many students are in possession of and using IT devices in their everyday world.
“The reality is that web-based tools and resources have changed the landscape of learning. Students now have at their fingertips unlimited access to digital content, resources, experts, databases and communities of interest. By effectively leveraging such resources, school authorities not only have the opportunity to deepen student learning, but they can also develop digital literacy, fluency and citizenship in students that will prepare them for the high tech world in which they will live, learn and work” (Alberta Education, 2012).
We look forward to further enhancing the learning journey of our students and ensuring they have every opportunity possible provided to them to assist in reaching their full potential.
