Year 7 AVID Elective

At Baldivis Secondary College, our purpose as a community is to ensure that all students achieve personal success in their learning and become responsible and productive citizens. Baldivis Secondary College is founded on the basic principle of respect. Respect underpins each initiative and interaction within our community.

Apart from respect, the pillars upon which we build our culture are:

  • Excellence
  • Knowledge
  • Integrity, and
  • Unity

What is AVID?

  • AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an internationally recognised teaching and learning framework designed to prepare students for success in school and universities.
  • AVID is best explained as an instructional support system for students that is built upon the philosophy that “effort creates ability” and that if we hold students accountable to the highest standards and provide academic and social support, they will rise to the challenge.
  • The AVID curriculum focuses on developing the study skills and academic skills necessary for success in high school and beyond.
  • The AVID program offers skill development, career building, personal mentoring, and group tutoring.

What is WICOR?

WICOR, which incorporates teaching and learning methodologies in the following critical areas:

  • Writing
  • Inquiry
  • Collaboration
  • Organisation, and
  • Reading

At Baldivis Secondary College, we use the WICOR framework to teach our students the broad range of skills and attitudes necessary to successfully pursue their individual pathways.

What is the AVID Elective?

A selective program that consists of students that display the work ethic, attitude, aspiration and determination to succeed at high school and beyond.
