Year 7 in Secondary

In 2015, Year 7 public school students will move to secondary school. The move will provide your child with the same opportunities as children across Western Australia, giving them access to specialist subject teaching and facilities needed for the Australian Curriculum.  The Year 7 Australian Curriculum has more in-depth content in each subject and higher expectations about the knowledge and skills that children need so they can succeed in and contribute to our modern world.

As a Year 7 student in a secondary school your child will be introduced to new and more demanding mathematical concepts including formal algebra and geometry, and will study biological and physical sciences including mixing chemicals using specialised equipment. They will also have access to a diverse range of learning experiences such as food technology, CAD technology, woodwork and metalwork. The move will provide exciting new opportunities for your child. We are working with our partner primary schools to prepare their Year 6 (and 7) students for the transition.

If you have any questions please visit the Department’s parent website at or contact the college and arrange a meeting with the Transition Coordinator.

Making the Move

Moving from primary to secondary school is a significant event in every student’s education journey.  Baldivis Secondary College staff have developed school transition plans and programs and are working very closely with the administration and Year 6 and Year 7 teachers in our partner primary schools to support students in their move to secondary school.  Parent, too have an important role to play at home.  Parents preparing for and talking about the move can make a big difference to how well their children make the transition. If parents are positive, well informed and knowledgeable about the move, they are better able to support their children.

Bus Services

Is your child starting or changing schools in 2015 and are you are seeking Transport Assistance on an ‘Orange’ school bus?

In 2015 all Year 7 students, will be attending high school as secondary students. This will have a substantial impact on the ‘Orange’ school bus network and will require significant planning.  It is very important that Public Transport Authority establishes the number of eligible students requiring Transport Assistance.

The Public Transport Authority is requesting parents that have children starting or changing schools in 2015 and requiring bus travel to complete an  online  application for Transport Assistance at  by no later than 31 August 2014 for travel in 2015.

Please be aware; Transport Assistance is offered to eligible families in two forms,  either by ‘Orange’ school bus or a Conveyance Allowance paid to parents to drive their children to and from school.  The type of Transport Assistance provided to a family depends on many factors including, location and bus availability.

If your child is currently travelling on an ‘Orange’ school bus and they are not changing schools next year, there is no need to reapply or contact us as your transport arrangements as a rule will remain the same.

If you have any further questions please phone 9326 2625 or email
