Building on the foundational skills developed in Year 7, students in Year 8 continue to explore and refine their use of visual art language and conventions in more complex and varied forms. They experiment with a broader range of materials, techniques and processes to create resolved 2D and/or 3D artworks that demonstrate increasing technical skill and personal expression.
Students deepen their understanding of compositional structure and are encouraged to make more informed aesthetic choices. They further investigate cultural, social and historical contexts, examining how meaning is communicated in visual art across different times and places. Through this, students begin to critically reflect on their own work and that of others, making thoughtful decisions about how artworks are displayed to engage and inform audiences. Safe and responsible art-making practices remain a key focus as students develop greater independence in the creative process.
