Year 7 Instrumental Music

 All Year 7 School of Instrumental Music students are required to be enrolled in the Instrumental Class Music course at school.  This course runs all year and therefore replaces the Year 7 Integrated Arts program for instrumental music students.

Baldivis Secondary College identifies musically talented upper primary students in the local community through the School of Instrumental Music Program. We are keen to attract such students to the 2015 Year 7 School of Instrumental Music program in order to further develop their music skills and Baldivis Secondary College’s growing instrumental ensembles and lower school classroom programs. Baldivis Secondary College Instrumental Music program provides an avenue for students to excel in all aspects of Music. This is more than just your average Music subject.

All students will be enrolled in regular weekly instrumental lessons whereby free instruction is offered to students in the instrumental families of Guitar, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion. Instruction in these instruments involves thirty minutes a week in a small group situation and because of our cyclic timetable; students will only miss the same half-lesson of regular timetabling each week for a maximum of one term.

As part of this course which runs through the whole year, students will study the theoretical concepts of Rock n Roll through to Dance and Pop music, whilst applying these new understandings to their own compositions and recordings. Students will also take part in aural (ear training) studies which will compliment their listening and performance skills.

Assessment for this course consists of:

  • The development of a music journal which can be built on in further years of study;
  • A composition task; and
  • A solo or group performance on the students’ chosen instrument.

All students in the program are also strongly encouraged to participate in an ensemble.

Existing School of Instrumental Music (SIM) students from local primary schools will be automatically placed into this course.
